The Nautilus is an iconic luxury sports watch that was launched in 1976. It was designed by renowned watchmaker Gerald Genta and became a symbol of casual elegance and prestige in the watch industry. At its launch, the Nautilus broke with sports watch tradition by combining sophistication with a more rugged and versatile design.
The Nautilus was conceived as a water-resistant sports luxury watch, which was an innovative concept at the time. Its design was inspired by a ship's porthole, which was reflected in its distinctive octagonal case shape with domed side bezels. The combination of polished and satin finishes on the case and bracelet, as well as its distinctive horizontally striped dial pattern, gave it a unique and elegant look.
